Slam poetry has its place between an author reading, reciting competition, theatre, improv and a rap battle. Authors performing focus on WHAT they are saying and HOW they are doing it. The most important part is communication with the audience. The game includes facial expressions, movement, rhythm and the content of what is said. Some slammers like to improvise, others prepare vigorously long time ahead. The important thing is that the text is original and no props are used.

The performance is judged by a jury randomly selected from attendees, but anyone in the audience can influence jurors or stage performers with their reaction. Slam poetry is an interaction of word, space and recipients.
