57. BRNO 16 | Art Makes us Stronger
12.–15. 10. 2016
Art makes us stronger. Our bodies are beautiful. We have prepared the already 57th edition of international film festival of short films. You will love us for it. With love for film and taste for work we have selected 39 films from 22 countries of the world. We have also thought very hard and prepared an original off-programme. We have invited guests from all over the world because we like guests. Get ready for four days of screening, working out, reading, wandering around art exhibitions, discussing, dancing, walking, smiling, and clapping in Kino Art.
The intimate Kino Art will embrace you and we will be able to encounter the international jury, Czech and international filmmakers, fans of film, artists, and us. You will be able to see whether you can manage to see the whole contest – that means 11 hourlong blocks = 11 hours of short film. Chuck Palahniuk will read a part of his newest story just for you.
The off-programme itself is dedicated to Asian film, the giants of Slovak art from the era of socialist Czechoslovakia, which had been made strong by art. Section “Czech 16” will be all about Czech films and Czech authors. The experimental distributional platform from Vienna, Sixpack, had prepared a special section of Austrian experimental film. Additionally, one whole sequence will be dedicated to LEGOs! Art also used to strengthen the recently deceased industrial filmmaker, Milan Kazda. You will have the opportunity to work out on an exercise machine. Members of the Sokol movement will give you a tour of all the places in Brno connected to exercise. The “Black Hole” will offer a kingdom of puppets.
Finally we will see you at a gala where we’ll be touched, where we’ll be elated, where we’ll be together. Then we’ll eat and drink and dance. We’ll have fun so we can forget that it is all coming to an end. Brno 16 will definitely make you stronger forever, though.
